== Notable features == === Primary dome and Central Atrium Spire === The primary dome's interior rose to a maximum apex height of approximately 340 metres, sufficient to permit a microclimate distinct from the secondary domes, with measurable convective air movement and diffuse natural lighting through the translucent panel array during Martian daytime. The Central Atrium Spire, a latticed observation and communications tower rising 180 metres from the dome floor, served as both a structural anchor point for internal cable systems and the symbolic centre of civic life in the complex. Public gatherings, administrative announcements, and the annual Establishment Day commemorations marking the 2047 CE founding were all held at the Spire's base plaza. === Tanaka Greenhouse Ring === The greenhouse ring system designed by Engineer Yuki Tanaka occupied a continuous band along the interior perimeter of the primary dome and the entirety of the fourth secondary dome. Tanaka's design employed a tiered hydroponic array using recirculated aquifer water, full-spectrum LED grow lighting calibrated to simulate optimal Terran crop-growing conditions, and a closed-loop nutrient recovery system that reduced waste output by approximately 84 percent compared to earlier Mars mission greenhouse designs. The ring produced staple crops including wheat analogues, legumes, leafy vegetables, and selected fruit-bearing species. The Columbia Basin Greenhouse Network on Earth had served as a partial design reference, though Tanaka substantially modified its open-field assumptions for a sealed pressurized environment. === Subsurface Aquifer Tap Network === The Subsurface Aquifer Tap Network consisted of eleven primary boreholes ranging from 280 to 440 metres in depth, each equipped with electrothermal extraction equipment that melted and pumped ice-bearing regolith water to surface filtration tanks. The network was designed and installed under Foreman Cassian Obuya's supervision and remained the complex's sole primary water source throughout the Bootstrap era. Supplemental water recovery from atmospheric condensation and waste reclamation provided a small secondary stream. The network's deepest borehole, designated Tap Seven, reached 441 metres and confirmed a secondary aquifer layer that informed later Valles Marineris Excavation Project survey planning. === Dust-Season Pressure Bulkhead Array === The Dust-Season Pressure Bulkhead Array comprised a series of retractable internal bulkheads installed at each dome-junction corridor following the early COβ scrubber crisis. The array allowed any individual dome to be sealed from the others within minutes, preventing a life-support failure in one dome from cascading into adjacent pressurized spaces. The design was credited to Dr. Fatima Al-Rashid's post-crisis review recommendations and incorporated into the Martian Dust Season Protocols as a mandatory standard for all subsequently constructed Martian dome complexes. The array was activated in full on multiple separate occasions during the complex's early operational decades, each time successfully containing an atmosphere-management incident within a single dome segment.
