The greenhouse ring system designed by Engineer Yuki Tanaka occupied a continuous band along the interior perimeter of the primary dome and the entirety of the fourth secondary dome. Tanaka's design employed a tiered hydroponic array using recirculated aquifer water, full-spectrum LED grow lighting calibrated to simulate optimal Terran crop-growing conditions, and a closed-loop nutrient recovery system that reduced waste output by approximately 84 percent compared to earlier Mars mission greenhouse designs. The ring produced staple crops including wheat analogues, legumes, leafy vegetables, and selected fruit-bearing species.
